Well, it's been quite a while but here we go.
Tithe by Holly Black
0.5/5
To sum up this book in one word: awful. (Some spoilers)
It started off great with the main character Kaye saving a fairie. Great right? A potential love story maybe? Then she gets caught in the middle of a war and almost dies I think? I don't even know. But let's start from the beginning.
It starts with a normal girl named Kaye and her mother. Her mother drinks a lot and dates a lot of men (that's what I gathered anyway). Something happens to this Lloyd guy and they move in with her grandmother. I guess they move around a lot? Don't really know. Anyway, Kaye is out in the woods. She finds a random guy whose been attacked. She gets him help by talking to a river? Or lake? He's healed and life can go on.
She finds out she's a fairy somehow, her fairy friends told her maybe? She puts a spell on this Kenny guy and he falls for her. She goes to a revel and gets kicked out by the guy she saved. She gets back home and sleeps.
She's captured in the fairy lands and brought to the Unseelie court where she is meant to be a human sacrifice for some poorly explained reason. She escapes and kills the unseelie queen.
Honestly, it needed to be fleshed out more. I had no understanding or connections to the characters. It was hard enough trying to keep all the characters straight but nothing in the way they were written made me interested in them. This book would have a zero rating if it wasn't a quick read.
