 I have a love-hate relationship with Casteel: one minute I hate him, and the next I love him. But let's start at the beginning. 

 Casteel is forcing her to marry him, taking away her choice yet again. It's the way he says it too. 

We go home to marry, my princess. 

Just yuck. Not a great start. So, Poppy is descended from Atlantia. How did no one know? or did they? Is Casteel just going to kill anyone who disagrees with him? Can you say toxic?Alstair is the advisor to king and queen. Casteel is planning to use her. Kieran implying that he is the only one she  doesn't have to fear. I hate the nickname Princess. Casteel is a jerk. If he loved her, he would let her go. Not force her to marry him. I hate him, screw him. He's a jailer, nothing more and he is possessive over her. I haven't hated someone this much since tamlin in ACOTAR. I hope she gets free. I hate him but I also hate the Ascended. Is no one in the book except Poppy and Alstair redeemable?  The Ascended also treated Casteel poorly. 

Poppy tries to escape Kieran catches her. Casteel found her. They fight. Mist and Craven come. 

The marriage is a business arrangement- still don't like it. 

The Ascended come for her. They attack and some are killed. The Ascended are awful, even worse than Casteel. Poppy goes with them. Chaney fed on her (disgusting). Casteel rescues her. They are leaving for Atlantia. They are attacked on the road by the dead bones clan. 

I haven't been this wrong about someone since Rhys. The wedding was adorable. 

The whole book was leading to what bloodline Poppy is descended from. I didn't expect this. Blood of the King of the gods? What does this mean? Were her parents elementals? Are they her parents? And who was the mystery man?

  What a fricken rollercoaster, good lord This book opens with Casteel imprisoned in a cell, bound with shadowstone and injured. There are Craven attacks as they are free roaming. He is losing too much blood. He discovers that the queen is a false god, a demis.  Meanwhile, Poppy and the army are liberating cities controlled by the Ascended. In one of the cities, there are people that were killed and impaled, and their faces were covered with veils. Clearly, a message for Poppy but it is disgusting. They take Massense.  Vonetta and Emil are so cute. Vessa is creepy. The blood queen sent a package which turns out to be Cas' finger 🤢They plan to go to Carsodonia to rescue Cas. Vassa summons a storm which is an awakening of death. Kolis is the previous primal of death and Eythos is the first primal of life.  I love how Valyn is protective of Poppy, loves her and doesn't want to lose her.  What happened to Preela is disgusting and the fact Poppy's dagger is made fro...

So far, I hate almost everyone in this book except for Wolven and Cas.  Alstair betrays them. He is an entitled jerk who is working with Jansen. Jansen is a changeling who did a lot of horrible things including killing a child, pretending to be people, and imprisoning Poppy. He is a so-called guardian but I'm not buying it.   Poppy imprisoned What is this Prophesy? Alstair was there the night her parents died and betrayed her parents. Poppy's mom was a handmaiden to the queen. What does this mean? Alstair wants her dead and to give her to the ascended. He thinks she can't control herself and her rage. They drugged her. Casteel, Kieran and Jasper are hurt :(  Wolven, Cas, and Cas's father rescue her  Alstair is dead. Thank God she didn't actually ascend.
